Just like many tech companies mergers and acquisitions are necessary for relevance and continual growth. The notable companies bought by Apple would be NeXT, Siri, and Beats. These are some of the biggest and most important to Apple with many more important mergers below in the chart supplied by http://aaplinvestors.net/stats/acquisitions/. NeXT was so important because believe it or not, Steve Jobs (Apples founder) was fired from Apple. He started a software company called NeXT which was eventually bought by Apple and gave them the foundation of the very important iOS and OS X (the operating softwares for their mobile products and computers such as the iPhone, iPad, iMac, and MacBook). The next important merger/acquisition was Siri inc. Everyone now knows what Siri is, it is the lady's voice on Apple products. The was a profound technology that has been crucial for Apple. Lastly and fairly recently was Apple's most expensive merger, Beats. Beats is still producing their famous headphones by Dr. Dre, and speakers. However Apple bought them for not only their consumer product line but also their music streaming service Beats One. This merger cost Apple $3 Billion making it their biggest merger/acquisition yet.
